Annually, between July and October, the majestic orcas make their way back to the Northern Vancouver Island waters. Nearly 260 "Northern Residents," a group of fish-eating orcas, frequent these parts chasing after salmon. Observing an orca perform a "spy hop," where the whale lifts its head straight up out of the water to survey its environment, is an unforgettable experience.
